Up nextBack to the full archiveThe documented facts

- The house has 160 rooms, stairs that lead into ceilings, doors that open onto walls, and windows in floors.

The full narration
Thirty eight years of hammering. Day and night, without stopping. Sarah Winchester was not building for the living.
Her infant daughter died in eighteen sixty six. Her husband William followed in eighteen eighty one. She inherited the Winchester rifle fortune and fled to San Jose.
Legend says a Boston medium warned her the dead would haunt her unless she kept building. Her letters never mention a medium. Not once.
She raised a maze of one hundred sixty rooms, two thousand doors, stairs climbing into ceilings. In nineteen oh six an earthquake cracked it for a minute. What the guides still report waits in the dark.
A trap for vengeful ghosts. Or a grieving widow outrunning sorrow one hammer blow at a time. The house fits both.
Stitch this if you would walk her endless halls alone tonight. Send this to the friend who swears they would too. Sleep with the lights on, if you can.
Dramatized for the telling. The facts above are documented; the narration is the Draugr’s retelling of them.
