The documented facts

  • In September 1972 in Toronto, Dr. A.R. George Owen's group of eight invented Philip Aylesford, a fictional 17th-century man, to test whether belief alone could produce a haunting.
  • After a year of silence, the group dimmed the lights and adopted seance conditions; in summer 1973 the table rapped answers and began to move.
  • Philip answered quiz questions about his century correctly, but never revealed anything none of the eight sitters already knew.
  • CBS filmed a seance for Man Alive before 50 witnesses; Philip never appeared as a figure, and phenomena faded after a sitter said they had made him up.

The full narration

They invented a ghost as a joke. Then it answered back.

Toronto, nineteen seventy-two. A group invents Philip Aylesford, an English lord, born sixteen twenty-four, who lost his wife and leapt from his castle walls. Every detail made up. A man who never lived.

They hold séances around a wooden table, just to see. Weeks of nothing. Then the table shudders, slides, tilts onto one leg, and raps out answers. One knock yes. Two knocks no.

They quiz him on details nobody invented. Philip gets them right. If Philip never existed... who was answering?

They film it. It keeps happening. Skeptics watch the table rise in good light, no hands near it. Maybe they summoned something. Maybe a ghost was never required.

Stitch this video if you'd sit at that table tonight and ask Philip one question. Follow for a new true nightmare every day. Sleep with the lights on, if you can.

Dramatized for the telling. The facts above are documented; the narration is the Draugr’s retelling of them.
