The 5 Most Terrifying True Stories We Have Covered
October 3, 2026. Ranked by scare level, argued over by the Dreaded.

Every episode gets a scare rating, one to five skulls. These are the five that earned the top marks and kept the comments arguing longest. All documented. All true. Sleep is optional.
5. The Black Monk of Pontefract
Episode 28. A council house in Yorkshire, 1966. Chalk dust falling through ceilings. A grandfather clock hurled down the stairs. Over forty adult witnesses, including firefighters, and a tall figure in a black monk's habit on land that was once a gallows site. The most witnessed haunting on this list.
4. The Footprints Led In, But Never Out
Episode 19. Hinterkaifeck, Germany, 1922. Six people murdered with a mattock, and the killer stayed for days afterward, feeding the cattle and eating the family's food. Nobody was ever arrested. The case was closed in 1955 without a conviction, which means the file is still open in every meaningful sense.
3. The Bell Witch Cackled at My Father's Funeral
Episode 16. Adams, Tennessee, 1817 to 1820. A voice with a name, a grudge, and a body count. Contemporary journals. A death by a poisoned vial. Two centuries of argument and nobody has settled it.
2. The Ranch That Hunts Back
Episodes 29 and 30. Uintah Basin, Utah. A wolf that absorbed six point-blank shots without flinching. Cattle mutilated with surgical precision. A billionaire's research team whose equipment failed exactly when it mattered most. The phenomena seemed to anticipate being watched.
1. The Tent Was Slashed From the INSIDE
Episode 20. Kholat Syakhl, 1959. Nine experienced hikers fled their tent in the night, cutting their way out, leaving warm clothing behind. Six died of cold. Three had crushed skulls and chests with no external wounds. The 2020 reinvestigation said avalanche. The tent still says otherwise.
Disagree with the ranking? Good. That is what the comments are for. Every story above is documented; the order is the only fiction here.
