The documented facts

  • Nine hikers led by 23-year-old Igor Dyatlov camped on Kholat Syakhl, Mansi for Dead Mountain, on February 1, 1959.
  • Searchers found the tent cut open from the inside, with warm clothing and boots left behind, and nine sets of footprints leading downhill.
  • Six of the nine died of hypothermia; three had severe skull and chest fractures with no external wounds, judged not inflicted by human hands.
  • The 1959 inquest cited a compelling natural force; the 2020 Russian reinvestigation concluded an avalanche forced them from the tent.

The full narration

They slashed their way OUT of the tent, straight into the cold. February, nineteen fifty-nine. The Ural Mountains. Nine hikers. None came home.

The rescuers found the tent first. It was cut open, from the INSIDE. Boots lined in a row. They'd fled into minus thirty... barefoot.

The footprints ran a mile downhill. Then came the bodies. Broken ribs. Crushed skulls. Not a single wound on their skin.

One hiker was missing her eyes, and her tongue. The official ruling was a "compelling natural force." But if the mountain killed them... why run FROM the tent?

Avalanche. Infrasound. Soldiers. Every theory dies in that snow, except the one the searchers never wrote down.

Stitch this video if you'd spend one night in that tent at Dyatlov Pass. Follow for a new true nightmare every day. Sleep with the lights on, if you can.

Dramatized for the telling. The facts above are documented; the narration is the Draugr’s retelling of them.
